Montessori Class Management explores the pedagogical principles that are involved in various typical real-life classroom situations. Based on Montessori’s concept of scientific pedagogy, this book provides a valuable course of study for Montessori Teacher Training Centers. By helping observe with objectivity how students interact within a prepared environment, the book facilitates teachers in the acquisition of the logical strategies and introspective skills which are required to bring about a normalized class of children. The Montessori teacher will find it an effective tool for guiding students in developing critical thinking, respectful relationships, personal motivation, and self-esteem.
This is an excellent book for Montessori teachers and also for parents who want to understand education. Franco Albanesi begins by explaining that rational thinking is the essential quality that distinguishes humans from the rest of the animal kingdom. He states, “Thinking and acting rationally means not only having the ability to reason with logic, it also means being able to apply the method of logic to the facts, and only the facts, of reality.” Since rational thinking does not occur automatically, the essential purpose of education is to help the child develop that ability. The theme, the means to developing rationality, is consistently carried out throughout the book. He covers classroom issues such as emotions and their relationship to reason, manipulation, lying, stealing, self-esteem, sitting aside (time-outs), motivation, self-correction, competition, violence and much more. He gives lots of examples of how to communicate with children effectively. I highly recommend this book.
